AFG appoints new sales leaders

Apostolidis steps into state manager role; Malkin takes on aggregation manager post

AFG appoints new sales leaders

AFG, one of Australia’s largest aggregators, has announced sales leadership team changes, with Foti Apostolidis (pictured above left) stepping into the role of state manager for Victoria and Tasmania.

Apostolidis has been with AFG for six years, previously working as a partnership manager and spending the past four years focused on broker recruitment. He replaces Christa Malkin (pictured above right), who has been promoted to the newly created position of general manager of aggregation.

The appointments, effective April 1, reflect AFG’s strategy of internal promotion, said Them Lam, the aggregator’s head of sales and distribution.

“Foti’s commercial acumen, dependability, and calm demeanour have made him a standout performer,” Lam said. “He already has strong relationships with the Victorian-based team, and we are confident his leadership will drive continued success in the region.”

Malkin, who joined AFG in 2021, became national manager – strategic partners in 2022 and state manager for Victoria and Tasmania the following year. In her new role, she will oversee AFG’s national aggregation business, supporting its network of 4,100 brokers.

“Christa epitomises the type of leader that AFG strives for,” Lam said. “She lives AFG’s values, cares for our people, and exceeds the customer experience standards we aspire to provide to our members.”

The leadership changes come as mortgage brokers play an increasingly significant role in the home loan market. Industry data shows brokers now facilitate 76% of all residential home loans, with one in 10 mortgages arranged by an AFG broker.

“We expect broker market share to continue to grow, and with that will come further demand for an aggregation partner that can provide market-leading technology, compliance, and business-building support,” Lam said. “To maintain our industry-leading position, we need to have the right structure and leadership teams in place, and these latest appointments fully demonstrate this commitment.”
