Beyond Bank names new CEO

Beyond Bank has announced the appointment of David Marshall as its new chief executive officer, effective March 26.

Marshall brings more than 35 years of banking experience to the role, including leadership positions at Defence Bank and Hume Bank. He most recently served as CEO of Ultradata, a financial technology company, and has held senior executive roles at Commonwealth Bank and Westpac.

According to Beyond Bank chair Sam Andersen, Marshall’s background in customer-owned banking and technology were key factors in his selection.

“David’s deep understanding of customer-owned banking and his extensive experience in the fast-paced world of technology made him a natural choice to lead our bank as we continue to expand our commitment to deliver meaningful financial wellbeing to families and communities across Australia,” Andersen said.

Commenting on his appointment, Marshall expressed enthusiasm for the role, citing Beyond Bank’s community-focused approach.

“As a full-service bank with a growing national presence, Beyond Bank is well placed to fill the gap being left by the major banks,” Marshall said. “I am relishing the opportunity to work with the team to maintain the strong momentum we have in powering those communities.”

Currently based in Melbourne, Marshall will relocate to Adelaide to oversee the bank’s operations, which include a national network of metropolitan and regional branches. He will succeed interim CEO Wayne Matters.

In addition to the CEO appointment, Beyond Bank has announced that Cindy Batchelor will join its board of directors on Feb. 1.

Batchelor brings three decades of banking experience, with expertise in business banking, community engagement, strategic risk management, and thought leadership. She is the current chair of Auto & General Insurance Company and the Victorian chapter chair of Chief Executive Women.

“We are extremely pleased to have Cindy join our board,” Andersen said. “Her skills and experience will add to the diversity and depth of our existing Board composition and ensure Beyond Bank’s board remains well equipped to govern a financial services business of the size and complexity of our bank.”
