He is also named co-head of lending
Real estate non-bank lender Centuria Bass has named former Wallabies vice captain David Giffin (pictured above) as its new deputy chief executive and co-head of lending.
Giffin will oversee private lending origination and loan management across Australia and New Zealand.
The appointment comes during a period of rapid growth for Centuria Bass, which saw its assets under management increase by over 46% in 2024 to surpass $2 billion.
Giffin brings more than 20 years of experience in private lending markets, having raised over $5 billion in debt and equity throughout his career. He also co-founded and led Taurus Motor Finance, securing over $1 billion in capital before the business was acquired by Metrics Credit Partners. Additionally, Giffin has managed loan portfolios exceeding $1 billion.
In his new role, Giffin will work closely with Centuria Bass founders and joint CEOs, Nick Goh and Giles Borten.
“It is a pleasure to welcome David to the Centuria Bass fold and to have such a credible, seasoned professional join our senior ranks at a time of significant growth,” Goh and Borten said in a joint statement.
Over the past year, Centuria Bass has originated and refinanced more than 44 loans worth $960 million, delivering a 10% internal rate of return (IRR) on primarily first mortgage opportunities for its investors. Certain senior loans have achieved IRRs as high as 15.25%.
The company credits its success to its focus on the under-serviced middle market for real estate loans, targeting developers in need of funding for new projects, land subdivisions, bridging finance, and residual stock loans.
“David’s experience across capital raising and loan management is a perfect match to assist Centuria Bass continue its growth trajectory,” Goh and Borten said.
Before co-founding Taurus, Giffin held senior roles at several financial institutions, including Grant Samuel (Capital Advisory) and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. He is currently a non-executive director at aged care provider Kopwa Limited and previously served as Regional Council President for children’s cancer charity Redkite from 2015 to 2018.
