Outgoing president reflects on his four-year term
Damian Collins will end his four-year term as president of the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia on Thursday, REIWA has announced.
Collins said that it had been a privilege to represent REIWA and its members over the past four years.
“My tenure as president has been a particularly interesting journey,” he said. “When I was elected back in 2018, the property market was experiencing a significant downturn. Over the last few years, the market recovered strongly and has never looked back. I am confident that the solid market conditions we have been experiencing will continue well into the future.”
Collins also reflected on the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Real estate, like all industries, had to adapt during COVID-19, and I was particularly proud of how our members dealt with the challenges and still ensured people could buy, sell and rent property during these times,” he said.
He also highlighted Western Australia’s affordability compared to other states.
“Despite the challenges of recent years, and even with price growth and interest rate rises, we are very lucky to live in a state where the dream of homeownership is very much alive,” he said. “WA has some of the cheapest housing in the country and it remains very affordable for many West Australians.”

Collins will continue to serve on REIWA’s council.
“I am especially thankful for the relationships and networks I have made along the way, from journalists to members of Parliament. It’s been very rewarding advocating on behalf of the industry,” he said. “Now I will be leaving the honour up to REIWA CEO Cath Hart, and I am confident she will continue to build on REIWA’s achievements as the new REIWA spokesperson.”
The REIWA council will meet Thursday to elect a new president.
