BDM in the Spotlight: Adrian Dodson

OnDeck Australia BDM for Victoria, Adrian Dodson has been part of the banking and finance industry for 27 years.

BDM in the spotlight asks a different BDM the same questions – giving you a weekly insight into the lives of some of the top BDMs in the country.

How often do you see brokers in a week?
I aim to see around eight brokers a week face to face, plus phone calls and email correspondence.

What do brokers want most from you?
A prompt response and ability to deliver what you promise!

What is your favourite part of the job?
Meeting with brokers, gaining their confidence and settling transactions on their behalf.

What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?
The best brokers generally come from a financing background and can provide detailed information on their clients.

Describe your ideal weekend
Watching the mighty Saints win in the AFL, time with my wife, Cheree, and dog, Fonzie.

What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?
I have been lucky in my career to have been exposed to all types of transactions but the strangest one would have to be assisting a joint venture between a Doctor, and two brothers, both of which owned businesses. They were involved in some poor commercial property investments and the three partners couldn’t be in the same room as they didn’t like each other. We managed to get a deal done but I could never work out why they were in business together and their investments didn’t make any sense!

What's your top time saving tip and how much time does it save you?
Make a list of the key things you need to achieve each day and do the hardest thing on your list first, everything else you do that day will feel easier to do and you end up getting more done. An old manager of mine taught me this years ago, and I still use it today.

How do you like your steak done?
Medium please!

Every Wednesday we’ll feature a different BDM from across Australia. If you’d like to be included, please email the editor.
