Full name: Josie Piscopo
Job title: Business development manager
Company: Bluestone Home Loans
Number of years in the industry: 16 years
Location: Melbourne, Victoria

What did you do before entering the industry?

I was studying a science degree at university. During my second year, I applied for a part-time teller role, and I enjoyed banking so much that, by my third year, I was working full-time and studying part-time.

A brief description of your role and how you support brokers?

My role involves managing and growing broker relationships. Since many brokers aren’t familiar with the non-conforming space, I focus on educating and supporting them on our niches and how we can tailor lending solutions to meet their clients’ unique needs.

A goal that you aim to achieve in your role?

I aim to assist even more brokers and their clients in achieving their financial goals.

What’s your favourite part of the job?

I love supporting new brokers as they lodge their first non-conforming application. Guiding them through the process and then surprising them with our quick turnaround and smooth process is incredibly rewarding.

What sets successful brokers apart?

Successful brokers tend to diversify. Those who explore and embrace different areas of lending – whether it’s commercial, non-conforming, or asset finance – continue to thrive even in challenging financial times.

What should brokers be demanding from a BDM and lender relationship?

BDMs act as the bridge between the client, broker, and lender. It’s essential for us to provide comprehensive support and guidance throughout the application process, ensuring it’s transparent and seamless. We’re a valuable extension of the broker’s team and play a key role in their success

What do you provide to brokers that makes you valuable to them?

I offer communication, consistency, transparency, and responsiveness.

Describe your ideal weekend:

My ideal weekend starts with a rare sleep-in, followed by breakfast with my family. I’d love to spend the day going for a stroll through a local market, trying out a new restaurant for dinner with family and friends. I’d end the day with a good book before bed.
