BDM in the spotlight: Rachael Burling

BDM in the spotlight asks a different BDM the same questions – giving you regular insights into the lives of some of the top BDMs in the country.

Name: Rachael Burling

Years in the industry: 6 years

Company: The Invoice Market (tim.)

Location: NSW

  1. What was your work before entering the industry?
I worked in London’s recruitment industry in the property sector before I came to Australia 11 years ago. Then I worked in the recruitment field again for a few years before moving into the cash flow finance sector.

  2. How often do you see brokers in a week?
Every day I would speak or see a broker or referral partner to ensure that we’re across the detail and giving honest, accurate advice.

  3. What do brokers want most from you?
Brokers want an honest, reliable funder who can act quickly, think outside the box, and has the funds to provide. At The Invoice Market, we have the same goal to help the SME market grow in Australia with alternative funding solutions.

  4. What is your favourite part of the job?
To help a business obtain finance that will allow it to grow in sales and revenue while taking away the burden and stress of running a business. There is no better feeling than knowing you have given a transparent, honest service that wins you respect and loyalty.

  5. What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?
The best brokers know the clients that they are representing, and are able to provide them with accurate information and financial advice. They also keep me in the loop on their processes. We pride ourselves with our hands-on approach. It allows us to become like an extended team member for our clients and brokers.

  6. Describe your ideal weekend.
It has to be in one of the wine regions in NSW where I can enjoy the wines, food, and all the delights with friends. My favourite at the moment would have to be Mudgee. I’m also always ready for a good hike to burn it all off.

  7. What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?
Every scenario is unique; no scenario is normal. That’s why we exist, to think outside the box of funding solutions with tailored cash flow that suits our clients’ needs.

  8. What's your top time-saving tip and how much time does it save you?
Get up early and exercise. Get a routine. This allows me to be organised and structured with my diary and life. It also allows me to deal with the ups and downs that come with being a BDM in the finance industry. Sundays are for lay-ins only.

  9. What’s your favourite meal?
I love buffets, but a good roast lamb with all the trimmings is hard to go past. A Yorkshire pudding is a must.
