How often do you see brokers in a week?
This can vary quite a bit from week to week, but usually around 10-15 appointments
What do brokers want most from you?
I think the keys are being available, providing prompt accurate responses to enquiries and keeping an open mind to unusual scenarios. Also, it is important that they have a contact who can assist throughout the process.
What is your favourite part of the job?
As a credit specialist we are often able to assist when others might not. I find it very satisfying to be able to make dreams become a reality
. What I mean by that is the ability to give solutions that the majors and second tier lenders do not offer and an understanding of how to structure a deal that achieves the desired goal even if it is not what the broker thought of originally. I also enjoy getting to know my brokers and working with them to get the deal done.
What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?
Friendly, professional and organised with great attention to detail and thorough understanding of the client’s needs.
Describe your ideal weekend.
A day of tennis followed by a couple of white wines, catching up with my family and friends and squeezing in a good book at some stage.
What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?
It would have to be the owner occupied construction on the business premises – which was an abattoir.
What's your top time saving tip and how much time does it save you?
Not sure if this is time saving as such, but I do like to wake-up nice and early to get organised for the day before the phone rings.
How do you like your steak done?
Cooked medium, outside on the barbecue by my partner, extra points for mushroom sauce!
