Homeloans BDM for Adelaide, Steve Wallace has spent 31 years in the finance industry and the last 15 years in mortgage broking.
BDM in the spotlight asks a different BDM the same seven questions – giving you a weekly insight into the lives of some of the top BDM’s in the country.
How often do you see brokers in a week?
As often as they want to see me. Being in Adelaide I can get to most places in 20-30 mins which allows us to be more flexible in our approach. If I get a call, I can see the broker that day if necessary.
What do brokers want most from you?
The ability to workshop a deal and consider the solutions available, then act on the deal when submitted.
What is your favourite part of the job?
Going home on a Friday knowing that you have been able to provide brokers with competitive solutions to assist their clients and in turn enhance their business.
What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?
Those brokers who recognise that you worked your hardest to get a great deal for them and are appreciative even when the deal goes pear shaped.
Describe your ideal weekend
Run on the beach around 7.30am on a Saturday morning, go home to read the paper and have breakfast, then catch up with the kids for a red wine over tea. Sunday is a very lazy start to the day with a good home-made brunch and then just let the rest of the day find its way from there…
What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?
With our range of funders nothing is strange they are all just different!
How do you like your steak done?
I like it done by someone else and however it hits the plate is fine by me.
