2025 intake includes opportunities in business operations, banking, and project management
The Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) has expanded its Career Comeback Program to help more professionals re-enter the workforce, with the bank’s chief operations office (COO) now joining the initiative.
The program, which is aimed at individuals who have been out of the workforce for two years or more, will offer roles within the institutional banking and markets (IB&M) division as part of the 2025 intake.
Now in its fifth year, the Career Comeback Program has more than doubled in size compared to previous years. It will offer paid, 12-week positions in areas such as business operations, product management, institutional banking, markets, and project management. The program includes a thorough induction, coaching, and technology training, with the potential for participants to transition into permanent roles within the bank’s COO or IB&M divisions.
“We know a team that is diverse in skills, experiences and perspectives is stronger and more capable and brings greater value to our clients,” said Andrew Hinchliff, group executive of institutional banking and markets at Commonwealth Bank of Australia. “I’m proud to see our Career Comeback initiative expand to group COO and support even more experienced professionals to return to a rewarding career in banking, markets and operations.
“Our people are our point of differentiation and are core to our strategy and our success,” said Sinead Taylor, chief operations officer at Commonwealth Bank of Australia. “With the expansion of Career Comeback across COO, I hope to empower future leaders to consider a career in CBA where they can make a real difference for our customers.”
Jo Reardon (pictured above), who participated in the program’s inaugural cohort in 2021, shared her experience. After stepping away from institutional foreign currency sales in 2016, she was looking to re-enter the finance sector when she discovered CBA’s initiative.
“There’s a lot of recognition of the skills and experiences people develop away from a corporate context, and they translate well into a professional environment,” said Reardon, who now serves as director in the global markets sales chief operating office.
Applications for the 2025 Career Comeback Program are open until Nov. 1, with successful applicants starting in March 2025.
