CommBank names Matildas star as new brand ambassador

The Commonwealth Bank has announced Australian footballer Mary Fowler (pictured above) as its newest brand ambassador.

Fowler, a standout player for the CommBank Matildas and Manchester City in the Women’s Super League, will collaborate with the bank to promote financial literacy and support women’s sport in Australia. CommBank highlighted Fowler’s remarkable achievements, both on and off the field, as a key reason for the partnership.

Fowler made her debut for the national team at age 16 and has since represented Australia at the Olympics and the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. Despite playing overseas, Fowler maintains strong ties to Australia and said she is proud to work with CommBank to inspire Australians to take control of their financial futures.

“CommBank has been a great supporter of the CommBank Matildas, and I’m very excited to join forces with the bank, particularly to help Australians build financial fitness,” Fowler said.

“I came from a family where we didn’t speak about finance much, but I’m keen to ensure the next generation sets itself up for success and feels confident when it comes to understanding and talking about money.

“I hope my partnership with CommBank gets more young Australians thinking about their own financial fitness so they can prepare well for a bright future.”

As the naming rights partner of the Matildas, ParaMatildas, Young Matildas, and Junior Matildas, CommBank also supports community sport through grassroots initiatives. This includes funding the Growing Football Fund in partnership with Football Australia, which aims to increase female participation in the game.
In recent months, 118 community football clubs received funding through Round Two of the Growing Football Community Grants, adding to the 121 clubs supported during the programme’s first round. Football Australia data shows registrations for women and girls in grassroots football have grown by 16% since the 2023 Women’s World Cup. “We all fell in love with Mary’s tenacity, talent and drive during the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023,” said Jo Boundy, chief marketing officer at Commonwealth Bank. “I’m thrilled she has joined CommBank as a brand ambassador.

“I can’t wait to see Mary channel the same drive and ambition as she helps CommBank build a brighter financial future for all Australians and works with us to grow the game at the grassroots.”
