But could be released as soon as next week
Disgraced former mortgage broker Richard Pusey has been sentenced to 10 months’ jail for filming four police officers as they lay dying after being struck by a truck on Melbourne’s Eastern freeway. However, since the 42-year-old has already served 296 days in jail, it is possible he could be released as soon as next week.
On Tuesday, Judge Trevor Wraight sentenced Pusey to eight months’ for reckless conduct endangering serious injury and three months’ for the charge of conduct outraging public decency, with two months to be served cumulatively. He was also placed on an adjourned undertaking for two years for drug possession under conditions that include receiving psychiatric treatment. Pusey was fined $1000 and disqualified from driving for two years.

As reported in The Australian, relatives of the police officers who died at the scene have labelled the sentence as “totally inappropriate” to the offence.
“I find it to be outraging public decency that a more appropriate sentence was not imposed by this court and there’s now set such a bar that this type of offending is almost impossible to reach that level,” said Stuart Taylor, the husband of Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor.
Police Association Victoria secretary Wayne Gatt described Pusey as a “worthless individual that lacks any human traits that would be and should be and is feature of the Victorian community at large.”
