Marathon runner and business owner carves out her own space in the mortgage industry
A marathon runner, mortgage broker and business owner, Belinda Gibson, founder and director of TM Finance Group (TMFG) is a force to be reckoned with in the mortgage industry.
Sole broker at Melbourne-based TMFG and leader of an all-woman team, Gibson is constantly searching for ways to up her game. That quest for improvement helped land her a spot on MPA’s 2022 Elite Women list.
TMFG is not in its sixth year. Last year was the company’s most successful to date, with loan writing up 162% from 2020. Gibson;s brokerage wrote not only residential lending, but commercial/business lending and equipment finance. TMFG also opened a second office in the Gippsland region of Victoria last year. Gibson also went on a recruitment drive last year, hiring two new team members.
“I literally turned my business upside down in 2021, with a complete turnover in staff, and changed my processes from start to finish,” she said. “I now have more time to spend with customers, lead generation and meeting new referrers, which is hugely satisfying.”
Gibson is also proud of her all-female team. Having pushed for years to carve out a space in a male-dominated industry, she is a strong advocate for the advancement of women in the mortgage space.

“There should be greater gender equity in the mortgage broking profession, and whenever possible, I use my position as a broker to push for change,” she said.
Gibson said that as she built her team, she made flexible working options a priority.
“I set clear tasks and targets, while giving each employee the flexibility to fit work around their other commitments as caregivers,” she said. “...I ensure everyone feels supported, as a happy team leads to happy clients.”
