La Trobe Financial re-certified as carbon neutral

La Trobe Financial has announced the re-certification of its carbon neutral status by Climate Active, a certification program endorsed by the Australian government.

The achievement marks the third consecutive year the alternative asset manager has maintained the status, which is considered a significant part of the firm’s broader sustainability strategy. La Trobe Financial said its re-certification by Climate Active underscores its continued efforts to measure, reduce, and offset carbon emissions.

Climate Active is an Australian government-backed program that empowers communities and businesses to take climate action. The certification, awarded to organisations achieving carbon neutrality, recognises those demonstrating climate leadership to clients, customers, and shareholders. The certification process is recognised for its stringent standards and comprehensive assessment.

“We are very proud to announce that we have, for the third consecutive year, had our carbon neutral status certified by Climate Active,” said Chris Andrews (pictured above), chief executive of La Trobe Financial. “As Australia’s premier alternative asset manager with in excess of $20 billion in AUM, this is an important achievement for the business of which I am immensely proud.”

Under Andrews’ leadership, La Trobe Financial has committed to becoming fully carbon zero by 2030. The company plans to transition to 100% renewable energy starting in 2024, a move expected to reduce its annual carbon footprint by almost a fifth.

“By transitioning to 100% renewable energy from the grid, we expect to reduce our annual carbon footprint by a significant 18%,” said Lilian Chin, director client partnerships and ESG at La Trobe Financial. “Additionally, by proactively adopting renewable energy sources starting in 2024, we have made significant progress in minimising our Scope 2 carbon emissions.”
