Liberty extends support of Run the Tan

Leading non-bank lender Liberty has announced it will extend its partnership with the Run the Tan charity event which supports mental health.

Liberty was a key sponsor in 2022 and now has overall naming rights for the 2023 event to be held at the iconic Tan Track around Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens on April 30.

James Boyle (pictured above), the CEO of Liberty, said the partnership extension was an opportunity to demonstrate a free-thinking approach to supporting both community wellbeing and professional sport.

“As an organisation with inclusion in our DNA, it gives us much pleasure to support an initiative that is open to everyone in the community and caters for all abilities,” Boyle said. “We pride ourselves on finding ways to support our local community and hope our continued partnership with Run the Tan will help raise more funds and awareness for mental health in Australia.”

Liberty will also drive support for Run the Tan through its existing sponsorships with the Melbourne Renegades, Essendon Football Club and A-Leagues. Representatives from each code will again be taking on the 3.8km course during the Liberty Celebrity Challenge feature race for sporting identities and celebrities.

“By continuing to build healthy competition between three of Australia’s biggest sporting codes in AFL, cricket and soccer, we hope to make an even bigger impact in supporting the mental health of Australians,” said Boyle.

Run the Tan founder Darren Templeton said the organisation was looking forward to joining forces with Liberty again.

“We are very excited to partner with Liberty for what has become an iconic running event in Melbourne and across Australia,” Templeton said.

“It is a fantastic opportunity to rub shoulders with Olympic elite athletes, sporting idols and celebrities and inspiring to watch their attempts to break the all-time track records.

“Our aim is for the event to help promote and grow the sport of running and raise valuable awareness and funds for mental health in a fun and inclusive way.”

Run the Tan aims to raise $100,000 to help support Australian mental health charity partners including Beyond Blue, Lifeline, Headspace and Black Dog Institute.
