NAB appoints Hunt as non-executive director

He will replace a former BNZ chair, who is stepping down as director

NAB appoints Hunt as non-executive director

National Australia Bank (NAB) has appointed Warwick Hunt (pictured above) as an independent non-executive director, effective Dec. 2, the bank has recently announced.

Hunt, who currently serves as chair of NAB’s subsidiary Bank of New Zealand (BNZ), will stand as a board-endorsed candidate at NAB’s annual general meeting in Melbourne on Dec. 18.

He will replace former BNZ chair Doug McKay, who is stepping down as a director at the AGM. McKay retired from the BNZ board earlier this year, and fellow NAB director Anne Loveridge is also set to leave the board after completing three three-year terms.

NAB chair Philip Chronican said Hunt’s appointment aligns with the bank’s commitment to maintaining New Zealand representation on its board, reflecting the importance of the New Zealand economy and BNZ’s contributions to the NAB Group.

“Warwick brings extensive experience in leadership and governance across large professional services organisations in various international locations,” Chronican said. “He will complement the board as a chartered accountant with expertise across industries such as banking, aviation, oil and gas, sovereign wealth, and agriculture.”

Hunt was previously managing partner for PwC in the United Kingdom, as well as the Europe, Middle East, and Africa regions, until 2022. Before that, he led PwC New Zealand and PwC Middle East. He joined the BNZ Board in November 2022 and was appointed chair in June 2024. Hunt is also a director of Genesis Energy Limited, listed on the NZX and ASX, and is a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
