The event aims to address the unique requirements of Australia’s regions in the national housing agenda
The Real Estate Institute of Australia has announced the National Regional Housing Summit, scheduled to take place in Canberra on Feb. 9.
This summit, organised in partnership with the Regional Australia Institute and Master Builders Association, aims to address the unique requirements of Australia’s regions in the national housing agenda. The summit will bring together regional real estate businesses and consumers to identify effective solutions and opportunities for collaboration in the housing sector.
Key points from REIA president
“Regional Australia from a real estate point of view offers so much; but at the same time has greater challenges,” said REIA president Leanne Pilkington. “For example, the regions have a higher rate of female property investment and generally enjoy more affordable entry level prices for first-home buyers and investors and greater rental yields. But, on the other hand, the challenges are far greater, with the tyranny of distance adding extra cost and time to building more housing stock; as well as more severe skills shortages.”

Pilkington emphasised the pivotal role of Australia's regions in the country's economic development and net-zero ambitions.
“In no scenario will Australia thrive without our regions being serviced properly, with key sectors of the economy like resources, agribusiness and emerging renewables all requiring sufficient housing infrastructure moving forward,” she said. “I encourage regional agents and businesses to get involved in this essential event.”
