Women in the mortgage industry – have your say

MPA is conducting a short survey to gain insight into the most important issues facing women who work in the mortgage industry.

The survey is being conducted to uncover the challenges female leaders face in the third party channel.

Responses so far have been divided, with some women lamenting the pervasive ‘boys club’ in the industry holding women back and other respondents saying that gender is not a barrier.

“I think the biggest issues are not gender-defined to be honest. As mortgage brokers, male or female, we all face the same hurdles and issues,” said one Victoria-based mortgage broker.

One survey respondent called on senior members of the industry to offer more support to female brokers.

“We need more support from those leaders higher in the industry,” said a South Australian mortgage professional. She called for “a real stamp out of the sexist attitude and acceptance from all leaders”.
