Demand for real-life stories
After seeing a gap in the broker education sector for insights into business growth and commercial lending, two industry experts have decided to launch their own series of podcasts.
Humour was at the forefront of their minds when head of third party at Marketplace Finance Dino Pacella (pictured above right), along with the company’s managing director Jean-Pierre Gortan (pictured above left), named their podcast series No Hair Just Finance.
The podcasts will cover a range of industry topics aimed at brokers who are looking to grow within the industry.
No Hair Just Finance podcast to provide valuable insights
The first podcast will be recorded in February and is expected to be released in late February or early March and Pacella said it would form part of an ongoing series designed to provide “valuable insights and stories from the field”.
The idea for the podcast came to fruition when the duo decided there were not enough resources available to aspiring commercial writers and brokers wanting to diversify their offering.
“There's a need for a platform to discuss trends, learnings, and developments in the industry,” Pacella said. “Our podcasts aim to fill this gap, providing insights and knowledge from experienced professionals in the field.”
Comprehensive education is vital
Gortan, who was named MPA’s Top Commercial Broker for 2023, as well as Westpac Australian Broker of the Year at the 2023 Australian Mortgage Awards said with ongoing discussions about diversification in the industry, comprehensive training and resources were crucial.
“Proper education and training are essential for brokers to diversify safely and effectively, ensuring they're well-equipped to handle the complexities of the market,” Gortan said.
When it comes to feedback on what brokers want, Pacella said brokers expressed a strong desire for real-life stories and experiences, rather than just theoretical knowledge.
“They want to understand the challenges faced by commercial brokers and how they've been tackled,” Pacella said.
“This perspective seems to be underrepresented in current resources, which is why our podcasts will focus on these real-world experiences.”
Podcasts available on major platforms
Gortan said the podcast would be available on major podcast platforms such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, and the company’s website.
“We'll provide direct links and instructions on how to subscribe and listen as soon as the first episode is published,” Gortan said.
Pacella said they were also preparing supplementary resources such as a dedicated website with articles, a forum for discussion among peers, and potentially interactive webinars with industry experts.
“Our goal is to create a comprehensive hub for commercial brokers to learn, grow, and share their experiences,” Pacella said.
With commercial loans an ongoing growth area for mortgage brokers, late last year the MFAA announced it would be holding a number of additional educational workshops focusing on the commercial broking sector.
