Broker network names new CIO, parts ways with CTO
Mortgage broker network Dominion Lending Centres Inc. (DLCG) has revealed new leadership changes as part of its effort to enhance technology and streamline operations.
The shuffle includes the promotion of Steve Mitchell (pictured) to chief information officer (CIO) and the departure of chief technology officer Suavek Kownacki.
These leadership changes come as DLCG’s subsidiary Newton Connectivity Systems has achieved Service Organization Control 2 Type 2 (SOC 2 Type II) certification for its Velocity platform. The certification is a benchmark for information security, confirming that Velocity adheres to strict standards for protecting client data.
“SOC 2 Type II certification is a significant milestone for Velocity that demonstrates our ongoing commitment to the highest standards of information security, availability, and confidentiality. It serves as third-party validation that Newton’s practices, policies, and procedures meet the rigorous SOC 2 standards, and assures our partners that their data continues to be managed in a controlled and secure environment,” said DLCG co-founder and CEO Gary Mauris.
Mitchell, the group’s new CIO, has been with Newton since 2017 and served as vice president of IT and applications since 2018. He has played a critical role in the development and success of Velocity and will now oversee all technology operations across DLCG and its subsidiaries.
“As information, technology and security are fundamental to DLCG’s business, it is important to have an integrated and cohesive technology department managed by a trusted professional like Steve,” Mauris said in a media release. “We would like to congratulate Steve on his promotion to CIO and thank him for his continued efforts to make DLCG a technology leader in our industry.”

The leadership transition includes the departure of chief technology officer Suavek Kownacki, who has been with DLCG since 2019. During his tenure, Kownacki played a key role in maintaining a stable technology environment for the corporation.
“We’d like to sincerely thank Suavek for his many contributions to DLCG over the last five years and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours,” Mauris added.
Headquartered in British Columbia, DLCG operates through subsidiaries such as MCC Mortgage Centre Canada, MA Mortgage Architects, and Newton Connectivity Systems, supporting over 8,500 agents across 500 locations.
