Meet the inaugural Woman of Distinction

Veronica Love, winner of the inaugural award for Woman of Distinction at the 13th annual Canadian Mortgage Awards, hasn’t been in the industry long, but she’s already made quite an impression on her peers.

“What sets me apart is, even though I’ve only been in the industry since 2010, I quickly built a reputation for being authentic and someone who cares,” she said. “I like helping build brokers’ and agents’ businesses through marketing strategies and business plans, and I’ve been getting repeat and referral business. I don’t just help them structure deals, I help them build their businesses on a larger scale.”

TMG The Mortgage Group recently hired Love as its vice president of corporate development because of her record to date at Dominion Lending Centres and MERIX Financial. In her new role, Love will help the firm grow its number of agents and develop synergy between its offices from coast to coast.

“When I was at DLC, I worked as if I had an equity stake in the business and tried to grow the brand as best as I could across the country because I think it was stronger in the west than in the east, and being that I’m eastern-based, I think I helped them.

“If a lender isn’t top of mind with brokers, they won’t use them, so what I tried to do for MERIX is put them on the map and elevate the brand because they have multiple brands [Lendwise and NPX], and it can be a bit confusing.”

As a self-described “natural-born cheerleader,” Love intends to raise awareness in the broker channel about what TMG has to offer.

“TMG is heading into its 30th year and I very much admire the owners because they’re true to their belief system and true to the agents who have decided to hang their hats and conduct business under the TMG brand. They want to be profitable, but by helping give back to their agents and brokers by helping them make more money. I’m a firm believer that there’s way to conduct a profitable business where everyone wins.”

Given the esteem with which Love is regarded by the industry, it’s a sure bet she’ll have brokers’ attention—as evidenced by her CMA win.

“I do think the competition was very steep because we have some impressive, impressive women in that category, and I think some very impressive women were also missed in the category, but I get calls from brokers at midnight who are at certain points in their careers and who need sounding boards, and it’s what I do,” said Love. “Agents I’ve worked with over the years know what I’ve brought to their businesses.”
