OREA chief Tim Hudak resigns

Former politician turned real estate leader steps away after seven-year tenure

OREA chief Tim Hudak resigns

The Ontario Real Estate Association (OREA) has announced that its chief executive officer, Tim Hudak (pictured), will stepping down after seven years at the helm.

In a statement, Hudak said that his last day in the role will be on August 2.

“I have been tremendously honoured to have spent the last seven years as the CEO of the Ontario Real Estate Association,” he said. “When I was recruited to the job, as I was leaving my time in public office, I believed I would be here for about five years with a goal of delivering high impact advocacy, greater profile for the organization and refreshed, practical products to support REALTORS as they connect people with a great place to call home.”

Under Hudak’s leadership, the association played a key role in advocating for legislation to accelerate the construction of affordable homes. One of OREA’s legislative successes was the Trust in Real Estate Services Act (TRESA), which positioned Ontario as a leader in professional standards and consumer protection in real estate. The act introduced new business tools for REALTORS®, including Personal Real Estate Corporations

Another notable achievement was the establishment of the Ontario REALTOR® Wellness Program, a pioneering initiative providing health and insurance benefits to REALTORS®. “The ORWP is a first among professional associations in North America,” Hudak noted. He also highlighted the streamlining of OREA, focusing on efficiency and effectiveness by reducing middle management.

Hudak expressed his gratitude to the OREA staff, board members, and the REALTORS® for their dedication and hard work. “I admire your work ethic and your unmatched dedication to building strong communities,” he said. He also thanked political leaders, including Premiers Ford and Wynne, for their efforts in supporting homeownership in Ontario.

Hudak joined OREA in 2016 after a distinguished political career. He served in the Ontario Legislature, where he held three key economic portfolios: Northern Development and Mines, Tourism, Culture and Recreation, and Consumer and Business Services.

In 2009, he became the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario, advocating for job creation and economic growth. Under his leadership, the party saw significant increases in the number of PC MPPs in the 2011 election.

Looking ahead, Hudak expressed his continued support for the real estate industry.

“I will be forever a champion of the Canadian dream of homeownership and the extraordinary work Ontario REALTORS® do in helping people get the keys to a great home,” Hudak said.

OREA has not yet announced a successor for the CEO position. Hudak plans to spend August with his family before pursuing new opportunities in the fall.
