CMHC reappoints executive to board of directors

The federal government has reappointed André Hébert (pictured) to the board of directors of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) for a two-year term, continuing his tenure that began in 2019.

Hébert has over 40 years of experience in information technology, specializing in strategic leadership and organizational transformation. He currently serves as head of technology at Air Canada Vacations and previously held senior leadership roles at Air Canada and Groupe Aeroplan Canada.

“This appointment reflects the Government of Canada’s commitment to ensuring strong leadership at CMHC as it continues to address Canada’s housing crisis and make housing more attainable and affordable – because everyone deserves a place to call home,” the Crown corporation stated in a Press release.

“I am confident that André will continue to bring invaluable strength to CMHC’s board of directors,” said Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, Minister of housing, infrastructure, and communities. “His proven leadership and expertise are critical in advancing CMHC’s commitment to affordable and accessible housing. I trust in his ability to support the federal government in addressing Canada’s complex housing challenges with dedication, ensuring every Canadian has a place to call home.”

The reappointment comes after CMHC’s leadership reshuffling. Last year, the agency named Coleen Volk as its new president and CEO, while former Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson was appointed as chair of the board of directors.

Other additions to the board included Laurie LeBlanc, Ray Williams, Darlene Hyde, Heather Tremain, and Nick Macrae, representing a cross-section of the housing sector, from development and real estate to non-profits and regulatory organizations.

The appointments were part of an “open, transparent, and merit-based selection process,” CMHC said.
