Public, non-profit, and private-sector partners are encouraged to submit project ideas
The Albertan government will be allocating a $68-million tranche toward affordable housing projects across the province, and minister of seniors, community and social services Jason Nixon called on stakeholders to offer ideas on projects situated in smaller communities.
In a tour of Grande Prairie’s Coordinated Care Campus earlier this week, Nixon said that public, non-profit, and private-sector partners have until October 16 to submit their affordable housing project ideas.
“It’s a priority that it takes place in every community, and I’m looking forward to seeing what Grande Prairie comes forward with,” Nixon said, as reported by CBC News.
Nixon said that the focus on smaller communities came about as a result of the previous round of funding earlier this year, which saw 25 out of 30 approved proposals come from either Calgary or Edmonton.
“We, of course, have large challenges in our two largest cities when it comes to housing,” Nixon said. “We’re working tirelessly to tackle those problems. But it’s important to me to make sure that we don’t forget about the rest of the province.”
Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) senior economist Shaun Cathcart noted that while a bumpy ride could be in store in the coming years, home prices were likely to continue climbing.https://t.co/q0c0yiWKRl#mortgagenews #industrytrends #homesales #houseprices

Nixon said that he is hoping for “unique solutions” in this second round of funding, particularly when it comes to proposals involving Indigenous housing.
“We want to make sure that our housing projects from emergency shelter on are coordinated well, culturally appropriate, and working closely with Indigenous communities,” Nixon said.
