Investments will go to two major PEI developments
The federal government has announced more than $17 million in investments to boost housing supply for communities in Prince Edward Island.
A $2.9 million investment through the National Housing Co-Investment Fund will go to the Lifehouse Transitional Shelter by the Boys and Girls Club of Summerside. The funding will be for the construction of affordable housing units for the area’s women who are fleeing domestic violence, together with their children.
Another $14.9 million investment through the Rental Construction Financing Initiative will go towards the construction of a 60-unit rental housing project, situated at 213 Simmons Avenue in Summerside. The project is anticipated to supply much-needed housing units to the area, which has seen chronic low vacancy.
“These investments show that our government is committed to addressing the housing needs in Summerside,” said Bobby Morrissey, Member of Parliament for Egmont.
“These projects will provide housing options, stability, and safety to those who call this wonderful part of our island home. I’m proud that these major investments will help meet our housing needs and will benefit thousands of residents for decades to come.”
