Announcement follows previous investments in Mississauga and Brampton
The federal government has announced a $22.9 million investment to create an estimated 58 new affordable homes for individuals and families in Peel Region in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
In a statement, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) said that the housing units will support residents “who are in uncertain housing situations, experiencing or at risk of homelessness, or living in temporary shelters because of the pandemic.”

The funding will come through the cities stream of the federal Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI) and follows previous investments in the region – including a $2.3 million investment to expand a housing project in Mississauga and a $30.3 million investment to support the creation of 67 housing units in Brampton.
Ahmed Hussen, the minister responsible for CMHC, said that the funding “will go a long way to support those who need it most by quickly providing nearly 58 new affordable homes for vulnerable individuals and families in Peel Region to keep them safe.”
Nando Iannicca, regional chair of Peel, said that he was “grateful to have the federal government's support with our affordable housing goals.”
“We look forward to further collaboration with our federal government partners,” he said.
