Habitat for Humanity’s “Women build” takes place over 11 days as 1,000 women -- including several from Verico Premier Mortgage Centre – do their part to build homes for the less fortunate.
“In one of Canada’s most affluent cities, tens of thousands of hard working families are trapped in a vicious cycle of poverty where they do not have a safe and decent place to live,” Kerri Reed of Verico Premier Mortgage Centre told MortgageBrokerNews.ca. “I am choosing to do something about the poverty housing issue in my city.”
More specifically, Reed’s goal is to “pick up a hammer and don a hard hat with hundreds of other women to help raise $1 million and build six homes for local families living in need.”
When they’re finished, six homes on Acme Crescent, near Kipling Ave. and Dixon Rd, should stand completed. In total, 35 men, women and children will inhabit the homes, allowing them to “break the cycle of poverty” they each have endured.
Taking place from September 18-28, the Habitat event is based on the premise that “every woman has a superpower – the power to change lives for the better.” The campaign is part of a global effort to bring women together with the shared goal of building affordable, quality housing for families in need; it is a way for women to have a powerful impact on their community.
