National Housing Strategy continues unabated
A total of nearly $2.39 million has been invested by the federal and Saskatchewan governments for the construction and maintenance of affordable housing units in five communities across the province.
The allocation is part of the 10-year, $40-billion National Housing Strategy (NHS), which aims to create 100,000 new housing units, repair and renew more than 300,000 housing units, and help 530,000 families escape housing need, thus reducing chronic homelessness by an estimated 50%.
Of the Saskatchewan investment, $570,000 will go to the non-profit group Gabriel Housing Corporation in Regina. Meanwhile, $470,000 is set aside for Oxford House, also in Regina.

A further $465,000 will go to River Bank Developments in Prince Albert, specifically for their Homes of Hope project.
A $450,000 tranche is meant for single-family units in La Loche and Ile a-la-Crosse under the Trades Training Program, which is operated by local housing agencies.
In Saskatoon, $434,000 will be allocated to the Lighthouse for its co-housing spaces for individuals who can live independently with limited support.
