Nearly 100 new affordable housing units to be added to the market's housing inventory
Federal and local governments have announced a multi-million investment in the development of new housing supply for Spirit River, Alberta.
A new $24.8 million housing project in the city, which will replace the Pleasantview Lodge, will provide much-needed homes for seniors with a range of care needs, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.
The new development will have an increased capacity of 92 units, with 40 units being lodge spaces and 52 units being designated supportive living spaces for seniors to age in the community. The project is expected to create hundreds of temp and permanent jobs during its development and long-term operations, CMHC added.

The project will be directly supported by the Lodge Partnership Program, CMHC said.
“Our partnerships have made it possible to develop housing that will help seniors who have a range of care needs to age in the community they call home. These strategic partnerships are helping us meet the diverse housing needs of Albertans, now and in the future,” said Josephine Pon, Minister of Seniors and Housing.
Construction is scheduled to begin next spring, and residents are expected to start moving into their new homes by spring 2024.
