Landlord registry designed to help evacuees search for temporary accommodations launched by a collaboration of several authorities
Evacuees from the Fort McMurray wildfire can now get in touch with the landlords of temporary homes via an online platform produced by a collaboration of various authorities.
As reported by Lydia Neufeld of CBC, the RentCafe info hub—jointly operated by the City of Edmonton, the Capital Region Housing Corporation, the Alberta Residential Landlord Association, and Yardi Canada Ltd.—has been relaunched on May 16 to accommodate those who have been displaced by the disaster.
The registry, which was assembled in under 72 hours according to officials, has been designed to help evacuees search for temporary accommodations that would fit their needs, and allow them to move in within a day of confirmation.
A significant proportion of the would-be landlords in the online portal are already featuring promos such as deposit discounts and even free rental for the first month.
“Home is essential to moving forward, and we are here to help families find home again,” Capital Region Housing Corporation CEO Greg Dewling said.
