Avison Young hires new valuation director

Commercial real estate services firm Avison Young has announced that Chris Chornohos (pictured) has joined its Calgary team as principal and director of valuation and advisory services.

In his new role, Chornohos will focus on expanding his network, identifying opportunities across Alberta and the rest of Canada, building a strong team, and providing valuable mentorship. The company said he will also “harness cutting-edge technology to deliver comprehensive valuations for our clients across multi-family properties, land & development, and self-storage ventures.”

His appointment comes a week after the firm announced expanding its Toronto valuation and advisory team.

“I’m delighted to welcome Chris to Avison Young as he brings two decades of solid experience from which we can draw,” said Matthew McWatters, principal, managing director and Canadian leader of Avison Young’s valuation, advisory and property tax services.

“His valuation knowledge coupled with his background in brokerage, investment, and land sales will make him a multi-faceted, sought-after expert on the team – an important combination we endeavour to provide to our clients as a part of our holistic approach.”

With over two decades of experience, Chornohos has a deep understanding of underwriting and valuation for regional and international real estate firms. He has also held significant roles in investment and land sales, most recently serving as vice president for a major commercial real estate firm specializing in development, brokerage, investment sales, and land sales for Western Canadian private, institutional, and corporate investors.

Additionally, Chornohos holds the AACI (Accredited Appraiser) designation from the Appraisal Institute of Canada and the MRICS designation from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

“Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of supporting client needs by putting them first – and I look forward to continuing to do this, backed by a company that shares my perspective and provides a vast network of professionals that I can tap into for counsel and partnership,” Chornohos said in Avison’s press release. “This is an exciting new chapter in my career, and I’m eager to get going.”
