BDM in the spotlight asks a different BDM the same seven questions – giving you a weekly insight into the lives of some of the top BDM’s in the country.
How often do you see brokers in a week?
This can change week to week, but I can have up to about 10 catch-ups in person. I really enjoy getting out to see my Mortgage Advisers, but to ensure I am always available to my advisers - either in person or over the phone - I do have to limit my visits some weeks.
What do brokers want most from you?
To be responsive. They need me to answer their phone calls and emails, to get those deals that sit outside of the box over the line, being their Advocate.
What is your favourite part of the job?
Meeting my advisers, winning those really difficult deals especially when it involves a first home buyer. Also I work with an amazing team of people who are great fun, so every day is a good day.
What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?
Those who put the customers interest first, and who want to work with us as a Business partner to build long term relationship.
Describe your ideal weekend:
I have 5 children so my weekends are full of sports fields and netball courts, so I would have to say escaping to Sydney with my husband.
What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?
Being asked to share a 1st mortgage with the ANZ from a new Adviser!!! Needless to say a little training was required.
How do you like your steak done?
Medium rare
NZ Adviser will regularly feature a different BDM from across New Zealand. If you’d like to be included, please email us.
