Daniel Karehana, BlinkPay chief executive and founder, said the signing of the API agreement with ASB represents another significant milestone for BlinkPay.
“The formalisation of our relationship with one of New Zealand’s major banks is a testament to the work both ASB and BlinkPay have put in over the past two years as we start building towards the exciting introduction of open banking and more broadly the emergence of New Zealand’s open data economy,” Karehana said. “We are incredibly grateful that ASB is keen to work with us and share our dream of not just launching exciting new payment services to their customers, but also our overarching goal to provide services that will help Kiwi households better manage their day-to-day finances.”
ASB confirmed that it is committed to collaborating and working with BlinkPay “to help New Zealanders improve their financial wellbeing.”
“We look forward to bringing these new Blinkpay experiences to our customers and building these out as New Zealand’s digital open banking system evolves,” the bank said.

Adrian Smith, BlinkPay chief product officer, said the tie-up will initially focus on launching next-generation payment products that utilize the new Payment NZ API standards.
“In addition, we are also developing other products that enable ASB customers to better manage their bill payments within ASB’s own app to increase visibility and reduce stress on households,” Smith said.
