Buyer demand was strong and consistent
Barfoot & Thompson remains resilient amid the COVID-19 crisis, boasting a 41% increase in property sales volumes in August compared to the same month last year.
Barfoot & Thompson sold 1,055 residential properties in August, which are fewer than the 1,095 residential properties sold in July but more than the 746 properties sold in August last year. It also received 1,354 new listings in August, which was down 11% compared to July but up 29% compared to August 2019.
“August trading was exceptional. Buyer demand was strong and consistent, and for the second consecutive month, sales numbers for this time of year were at a level last seen at the height of the last property cycle,” said Peter Thompson, the managing director of Barfoot & Thompson, as reported by Interest.co.nz.

Century 21 New Zealand also remained resilient amid the pandemic, with the company website seeing heavy traffic from prospective buyers during the second lockdown.
“Real estate websites have enjoyed good visitations in recent weeks from Aucklanders – many of whom we can expect to pounce with level 3 lifting,” said Derryn Mayne, the owner of Century 21 New Zealand.
“It's safe to assume we'll now see some extra activity going into spring, helped by some pent-up demand in Auckland after nearly three weeks in lockdown,” she continued.
“Century 21 offices in the likes of Waikato have continued to experience high demand, with some great prices being achieved regardless of level 2 or any uncertainty caused by COVID-19. In fact, most of the regions are still going from strength to strength.”
