Targeted relief includes temporary overdrafts and lending reviews

BNZ has launched a financial assistance package for customers affected by severe weather events in Nelson, Tasman, and Marlborough, offering immediate support for individuals, small businesses, and agribusiness clients.

Financial support available now
The assistance package includes several relief measures available immediately for eligible customers:
- Home lending facility reviews on a case-by-case basis.
- Temporary personal overdrafts to bridge cashflow while insurance pay-outs are processed (standard interest rates and credit criteria apply).
- Overdrafts up to $10,000 with no application fee for small businesses (standard interest rates and credit criteria apply).
- Overdrafts up to $100,000 with no application fee for Agri, Business, and Commercial customers (standard interest rates and credit criteria apply).
“We understand that some of our customers may be facing unexpected challenges to their homes, businesses, and communities as a result of the severe weather events,” Jones said.
Practical relief for recovery
BNZ’s relief efforts are designed to ease short-term financial pressure and support customers as they recover and rebuild.
“We are offering practical support to help relieve some of the pressure during this time, so people can focus on the clean-up and recovery,” Jones said.
She added that the bank also has additional options for customers in hardship and encouraged anyone affected to get in touch.
“We also have a range of other options available, especially for customers who are facing hardship, so I encourage people to get in touch so we can see how we can help,” Jones said.

- Business and agribusiness customers should contact their BNZ Partner.
- Small business owners can call 0800 BNZSME.
- Personal banking customers can reach out via BNZ’s digital platforms or by calling 0800 ASKBNZ.
- BNZ PremierCare Insurance customers can call IAG NZ on 0800 248 888 or submit an online claim.
BNZ also recently launched a Merchant Flexi Loan, offering up to $50,000 with no interest and fast approval — helping small businesses manage cash flow and growth.
