Father-daughter mortgage team give back to community

The Lending Team, an Auckland-based mortgage advisory company, is proving that working with family can be a recipe for success, especially when it comes to giving back to the community.

Led by father-daughter duo Neville and Keagan Modlin (both pictured above), The Lending Team recently became a sponsor of the upcoming Orewa Surf Sounds Concert and Fireworks – a beloved event for local families.

Happening on Saturday, March 30, Keagan Modlin said it’s a favourite event on the Hibiscus Coast as the kid’s amusement rides, food trucks, live music and fireworks display make a perfect combination for local families.

“This event used to be after the Santa parade, but it got far too big and we’re expecting a massive turnout,” said Keagan. “Come along, meet The Lending Team, and have a great Easter weekend.”

Family values driving success

As mortgage advisers, The Lending Team specialise in assisting Kiwis at various stages of their mortgage journey particularly self-employed applicants and business owners.

Their family values are the heart of their business which drives them to provide a personalised and genuine experience for their clients.

“There’s a business cliché that you ‘should never work with family’ – it may not work for some, but we believe it’s the key reason behind our success,” said Keagan Modlin, the 23-year-old co-founder and director who recently made the coveted NZA Elite Women 2024 list – the youngest woman featured.

“We both bring a unique perspective and experience, combine this with mutual trust, respect and a strong ‘why’ it’s powerful,” said Keagan.

This sponsorship isn't just a marketing move for The Lending Team – it's a "full-circle moment" as they describe it. The Modlin family has a long history with the event, attending it for years and even volunteering with operations in the past.

“To now be sponsoring an event which holds many family memories with is special,” said Neville Modlin.

Why connecting with community is vital for advisers

Being consistently engaged with your local community is vital for understanding and connecting with your clients. It’s also an opportunity to show potential clients who you are outside of being a mortgage adviser.

This has become increasingly important as Kiwis often find reaching out to an adviser daunting. They need to feel as if they already know you and your values before getting in contact. Being engaged with the community is a great way to build trust and confidence with your audience.

The Lending Team viewed sponsorships as a “great opportunity to support communities and businesses that align with their personal values and give potential clients a strong sense of who they are. They believe it significantly strengthens the relationship they have with their clients.

For example, Neville is a two-time Ironman finisher and is very passionate about the sport. He is well connected to the training community on the Hibiscus Coast and choses to sponsor events that speak to his community.

“Choose sponsorships and community events that genuinely align with your values and interests, the marketing that results will be authentic,” Neville said. “The audience will sense the difference which will strengthen your connection to the community you’re trying to engage with.”
