New head for response and enforcement
The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) has appointed Louise Unger as the new executive director for response and enforcement.
Unger will be joining FMA’s executive leadership team, bringing her extensive experience from the Commerce Commission where she served as general manager of the credit branch.
Background and expertise
Unger’s career includes significant roles in risk and compliance, particularly within the financial services sector.
Before her time at the Commerce Commission, she was a part of Lawyers on Demand NZ and spent over a decade at Bank of New Zealand leading legal and risk teams.
Unger’s extensive background also includes providing legal, risk, and compliance services to various New Zealand and international entities, including major banks, and telecom and electricity companies.
FMA chief welcomes new hire
FMA CEO Samantha Barrass expressed enthusiasm about the appointment.
“I am delighted we have secured Louise’s talent and skills for the FMA at this critical point in our oversight of financial services conduct in New Zealand,” Barrass said. “Louise has proven experience as a leader in governance and financial services law.”
Unger, who holds a law degree (Hons) and a commerce degree from Canterbury University, is slated to start her new role in Auckland this June.
