New hires to boost Wellington operations
First Mortgage Trust (FMT), a New Zealand investment manager specialising in property lending, has expanded its Wellington team with two significant appointments: Aaron Taylor (pictured above left) as Wellington BDM and Phil Bennett as head of lending.
These strategic additions aim to enhance FMT’s lending presence and reinforce its leadership in the private credit sector.
Expanding Wellington market connections
Taylor, previously with BNZ, brings deep knowledge of the Wellington market and strong local relationships to his new role. His experience will play a pivotal part in expanding FMT’s regional lending operations, the company said.
“Wellington is a key area for us, and having Aaron on board will help expand our presence and enhance our local connections,” said Paul Bendall (pictured above right), CEO of FMT. “His experience and expertise will be invaluable as we continue to grow in this region.”
Lending expertise to guide future growth
Bennett steps into the role of head of lending, previously held by Sam Burgess, who is now FMT’s chief investment officer.
Bennett brings extensive experience from New Zealand’s banking sector, and his leadership will be essential as FMT’s loan book approaches $1.5 billion, the company said.
“I’m excited to join FMT at such a pivotal time,” Bennett said. “The private credit sector is growing rapidly, and it’s an exciting time to be part of it. FMT has an outstanding track record, and I look forward to working with the team to continue building on that success.”
Leadership transition supports FMT’s expansion
“We are pleased to have Phil join the team,” Bendall said. “His leadership and knowledge of the lending landscape in New Zealand will help us continue our growth. “With Phil’s guidance and Aaron’s local expertise, we are confident that FMT will expand its lending and investment services across Wellington.”
Bendall also acknowledged the contributions of Burgess.
“Sam has done an outstanding job, and he passes the baton to Phil with the loan portfolio in excellent shape,” he said. “I’m looking forward to seeing Sam apply his knowledge from the lending side as we focus on growing our funds under management and taking the business to new heights.”
Recent FMT appointments also include Deborah O’Connor as investment relationship manager in Christchurch and Charlie Oscroft as investment relationship manager.
