Heartland Bank has announced that it is now an accredited living wage employer, joining over 200 accredited Living Wage employers in New Zealand.
The living wage is the hourly rate an employee needs to afford necessities and participate in community activities, including food, childcare, housing, and transportation. It is calculated annually by the New Zealand Family Centre Social Policy Unit.
Now, Heartland has finally acquired the Living Wage accreditation for paying the living wage to its employees and other workers providing services to the company through a contractor or supplier.
Keira Billot, the chief people and culture officer at Heartland, commented that acquiring the accreditation was the right thing to do.
“We realise the importance of people having access to a remuneration that can fairly accommodate them, leading to a better quality of life and greater opportunities,” Billot said.
“Our people are the most important part of who we are. Becoming an accredited Living Wage employer was the right thing to do for our Heartland whanau and to contribute to making a positive difference for New Zealanders.”
