Podcast will cover topics about economics and financial markets
Kiwibank has launched a podcast revolving around economics and financial markets. Titled “Markets, Mystics & Mayhem,” the podcast will be hosted by Kiwibank’s team of economists: chief economist Jarrod Kerr, senior economist Mary Jo Vergara, and economist Sabrina Delgado (pictured above left to right). The show will also occasionally welcome a special guest.
The podcast will discuss pressing issues that are affecting New Zealand’s economy while looking into data, making sense of policy decisions, and sharing forecasts as it monitors the state of the markets. It also aims to make economic jargon easier to understand for regular people.
Recently launching its pilot episode, the podcast made its debut by focusing the discussion on central banks and what they are doing with regards to New Zealand’s economy being affected by the Federal Reserve System. It also talked about the return to synchronised global monetary policy.
The episode also featured a discussion about the improving outlook with regards to the state of the country’s economy as well as what Kiwibank’s economists had been picking up from the market.
Kerr also said there was a positive change in sentiment across businesses. Kerr talked about his encounters with clients and how they have been turning out to be more constructive conversations with them.
The pilot episode also saw a discussion about the economists’ forecasts about the housing market in New Zealand and the expected return of investors. The rally in rates and the moves in currency as of late were also discussed in the episode.
With the release of the podcast, the bank encouraged listeners to provide feedback as well as possible topics or issues to be discussed among the hosts and possibly a special guest through sending an email at [email protected].
The podcast is available to stream on Spotify with episodes also on Kiwibank’s official Youtube channel.
