Revealed - finalists for Trade Me's 2025 People's Choicest Awards

Trade Me Property has kicked off the voting for the inaugural People’s Choicest Awards, showcasing the best of New Zealand’s everyday spots.

Gavin Lloyd (pictured above), customer director at Trade Me Property, expressed enthusiasm about the diverse nominations from Kiwis across New Zealand, highlighting everything from classic landmarks to local favourites.

Diverse categories to watch

The People’s Choicest Awards span seven distinct categories: Choicest Suburb, Playground, Bush, Dairy, Public Toilet, Landmark, and Local Legend.

Each category reflects a facet of community life, emphasising the places and people that make New Zealand unique.

Regional favourites lead Choicest Suburb

The nominations for New Zealand’s Choicest Suburb show a shift towards regional appreciation, with Morrinsville, Papamoa, and Southshore emerging as finalists. These areas represent a mix of urban and rural charms, catering to diverse lifestyles and community spirits.

Playgrounds and natural retreats

In the running for Choicest Playground, Timaru’s expansive C-Play challenges the nostalgic allure of Whanganui’s Kowhai Park and the well-lit, accessible Margaret Mahy Playground in Christchurch, Trade Me reported.

The Choicest Bush category celebrates natural sanctuaries like Ōtari-Wilton's Bush, Kauri Glen Reserve, and Orokonui Ecosanctuary, each offering unique experiences of New Zealand’s native landscapes.

Iconic Kiwi dairies and landmarks

The competition for Choicest Dairy highlights locales known for their generous ice-cream servings, with Rob Roy Dairy, Iona Dairy, and Darfield Dairy taking the lead.

Iconic structures such as Auckland's Sky Tower, Paeroa’s L&P Bottle, and the Ohakune Carrot represent the Choicest Landmark, marking them as quintessential New Zealand symbols.

Public toilets with character

The Choicest Public Toilets category features distinctive designs and amenities, from the artistically significant Hundertwasser Toilets in Kawakawa to Matakana’s elegant facilities and Taupo’s practical Superloo.

Honouring local heroes

The Local Legend category shines a spotlight on individuals making significant community impacts.

Finalists include Taka Peters, known for his food redistribution efforts in Auckland, and Jenniene Flemming, a Zumba instructor in South Auckland who champions mental health through exercise.
