Recognising the best performers in the mortgage industry
NZ Adviser is proud to reveal the winners of the Top Brokerages for 2023 – firms which have thrived despite facing a challenging economy and property market.
Financial Advice New Zealand CEO Katrina Shanks said the obstacles mortgage advisers had faced included rising interest rates, falling property values, compliance changes, economic uncertainty and the Credit Contract and Consumer Finance Act.
“They (advisers) have to be able to cover both macro and micro issues, such as understanding compliance conditions and delivering daily against the requirements,” said Shanks.
To identify the nation’s best performing mortgage brokerages in a difficult market, NZ Adviser invited companies to detail their accomplishments over the 2022 calendar year.
The eligibility criteria meant brokerages must employ one or more loan writers in a single officer headquartered in New Zealand. Applicants also needed to provide information about their aggregators, with aggregators verifying the details submitted.
Other information required included the number of brokers working at each company, the total loan book value and conversion rate.
Nominees were rated across four criteria – total loan book size, average settlements per loan writer, total settlements over the year and conversion rate.
Twenty firms made the Top Brokerages 2023 list, including EverBright Finance, led by founder and managing director Frank Cui. The brokerage, founded in 2015, was set up by a group of highly experienced former banks and has offices in Auckland, 18 financial advisers and a team of support staff. EverBright was also an excellence awardee at the 2023 New Zealand Mortgage Awards and was named one of NZ Adviser’s Fast Brokerages in 2022.
Another brokerage to win a spot in the Top Brokerages for 2023 is Guardian Smith Mortgage and Financial Services, based in Hobsonville, Auckland. The brokerage was founded in 2022 and is led by Mikey Smith.
Some of the other Top Brokerages 2023 winners include:
- The Mortgage Girls, led by Elyce Peters, which also won Prospa Brokerage of the Year – 6+ staff at the NZMAs;
- Taprobane Finance, which also made the Fast Brokerages 2022 list, and is led by Dimuth Liyanage, one of the Top Advisers for 2022;
- iConsult, led by Satyan Mehra, winner of two adviser of the year awards at the 2023 NZMAs, as well as the Mike Pero Mortgages Brokerage of the Year – 1 to 5 staff;
- NZ Mortgages, by Daniel Kuo.
