This is the second year of the fund which aims to help councils uncover hundreds of poor-quality homes.
The government has granted councils access to almost £4m in new funding to crack down on criminal landlords, Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick has announced.
Councils can bid for a portion of the funding to step up enforcement action against landlords who break the law and provide inadequate service to their tenants.
Jenrick said: “It’s unacceptable that a small minority of unscrupulous landlords appear to be breaking the law and providing homes which fall short of the standards that tenants rightly expect.
“Everyone deserves to live in a home that is safe and secure, and the funding announced will help to further strengthen councils’ powers to crack down on criminal landlords and drive up standards in the private rented sector.”
This is the second year of this fund which aims to help councils uncover hundreds of poor-quality homes.
In 2018 over £2m of funding was shared amongst 56 projects reaching 100 councils, home to over a million households living in the private rented sector.
