In the year to April 2017 landlords in the North East typically had a rental yield of 5.2%, with the North West being the second most buoyant area at5%.
Overall yields are falling in England and Wales, as they dropped to 4.4% in April, down from 4.5% in March and 5% in April 2016.
The East Midlands saw rental yields fall by 4.4% to 4.1% between March and April, the most rapid change ever recorded.
In London yields were the lowest at 3.2%, followed by the South East at 3.3% and the South West at 3.4%.
