The Queen revealed the government’s housing plans in her speech today.
Government plans to protect tenants and help first-time buyers get on the property ladder have been outlined in the Queen's speech.
The Queen said hernew Conservative government aims to improve building standards and provide properties at discount for those looking to buy.
Addressing parliament the Queen said: “New measures will be brought forward to protect tenants and to improve building safety.
“My government will take steps to support homeownership, including by making homes available at a discount for local first-time buyers.”
David Hollingworth, associate director of communications at L&C Mortgages, welcomed the news.
He said: “This is good news.
“These are things we all heard about during the election campaign, so I think it’s promising for that to remain at the forefront of the agenda.
“Clearly building safety is something that needs to be dealt with and the promise of further initiatives to make sure first-time buyers stand a chance of getting onto the property ladder has got to be positive.
“I think protecting tenants is positive as well, people need to trust in the private rented sector for it to be a healthy market, but we need to see the details.
“We also want to hear what the long-term fixed rate plans are and how that would benefit borrowers as well.
“It is important the government keeps looking at the housing market.”
