Equity release adviser Key Retirement Solutions ran the competition “Winning a Mini is as easy as 123” from 6th January 2010 to the end of April, with anyone registered as a referrer automatically being entered into the prize draw. Brokers received a further two entries for every client referred and three more for every client that went ahead.
Davies, a broker for 35 years, now based in Surrey, referred one of his wife’s friends to KRS, which was pulled from a hat by KRS business development director Dean Mirfin.
Mirfin said KRS had been pleased with the response they had to the competition and added: “Referral rates doubled. No-one’s doing give-aways like this anymore and the reaction was really good. We’re reviewing and may run a similar competition again.”
But kind hearted Davies didn't drive the car away when he went to claim his prize last week - he handed the keys to his wife Sheila instead, who was overjoyed and had only ever won a raffle in the past.
“It only seemed fair that she get the car,” said Davies, who admitted getting the phone call from Mirfin was “completely out of the blue.”
