Yorkshire house prices racing ahead

And prices have climbed across the Tour de Yorkshire route to reach an average of £139,775, the biggest annual increase for years.

The average house price is highest in Harrogate, also recently named the happiest place to live in UK for the second consecutive year.

This is closely followed by York, where the second stretch of Le Grand Depart begins.

Despite Skipton and Sheffield, having lower house prices, the Tour de France is set to give a huge economic boost across Yorkshire.

The chief executive of the tourism agency ‘Welcome to Yorkshire’ estimates the cycle race will bring over £100m to the region.

Leeds-based company, Age Partnership, who are the UK’s number 1 retirement income specialists, has reported that last year hundreds of their Yorkshire customers benefited from unlocking the money that has built up in their home, accessing an average of £44,617.

Dan Baines, Age Partnership’s sales and marketing director, said: “More and more over 55s are taking advantage of soaring house prices and choosing to release the cash tied up in their home through an equity release plan.

“Many use this money to supplement their income, for home improvements or to help other family members”.
