Conservative MP Tyrie, 60, is a respected critic of central bankers and successive Chancellors and has represented Chichester since 1997.
He said: “I am confident that Theresa May will lead the Conservative Party to a decisive victory at the General Election, and will continue to give the country the strong and effective leadership that she has already shown as Prime Minister.
“I remain deeply committed to public service. I am determined, and hopefully young enough, to contribute in other ways in the years ahead.”
Tyrie was in the news last month after the Treasury Select Committee found that then-deputy governor of the Bank of England Charlotte Hogg failed to disclose her brother’s job at Barclays.
And in September 2016 he accused Bank of England Governor Mark Carney of holding a "gun to the head" of Chancellor Philip Hammond to grant the Bank an indemnity approving of the term funding scheme.
The House of Commons’ Treasury Select Committee is always led by a government MP, meaning senior Conservatives will be seeking the role.
