Bank of Scotland was the most complained about mortgage lender in the second half of 2015, the Financial Conduct Authority has revealed today.
The bank took 11,606 complaints, followed by Santander (7,331), HSBC (6,296), so-called ‘bad bank’ NRAM which split from Northern Rock in 2010 (6,107) and Barclays (5,740).
Financial services firms received 2.11 million new complaints between July and December 2015 and the total redress to consumers stood at £1.97bn.
Christopher Woolard, FCA director of strategy and competition, said: “Firms seem to have taken on board our previous feedback on levels of complaints and we are slowly seeing firms address these issues.
“However, firms still need to do all they can to reduce complaints and ensure that they are working in the best interests of consumers.”
In terms of general insurance and protection, including payment protection insurance, Lloyds (152,149) was the most complained about firm, followed by Barclays (136,433) and Bank of Scotland (120,444).
The most complained about product was predictably payment protection insurance (932,298), with complaints rising by 6% from the first half of the year.
