John Charcol’s Walter Avrili will depart in the next couple of months after 34 years with the mortgage broker.
Avrili started his career at John Charcol in 1984 before holding positions including operations and sales director, chief operating officer and managing director in 2010 when John Charcol became part of the Towergate Financial Group.
In January this year he went part time as director of product and mortgage technical.
A John Charcol spokesman said: “After 34 years with John Charcol, Walter has decided to leave the business and take some well-earned time off.
“Following the purchase of John Charcol from Towergate, it was planned that Walter would leave the business post-separation, but he agreed to stay on following the purchase of [advice business] Simply Loans [in 2016] and then the subsequent management changes in 2017.”
Mark Fleet, chief executive of John Charcol, said: “I am personally grateful to Walter for his support over the last year since I joined the business.
“On behalf of the John Charcol team, I would like to thank Walter for his outstanding contribution to the business during his tenure.
“He will be with us for the next couple of months to say his goodbye’s in person to his colleagues and friends.”
Avrili has won numerous personal and company awards over the last three and a half decades with the brokerage and was recognised with a lifetime achievement award in 2014.
He has been responsible for some important innovations, including heading up the launch of the first mortgage broker online website, ‘Charcolonline,’ in 1999.
In 2001 when John Charcol was part of Bradford & Bingley Avrili set up its nationwide mortgage broker network, ‘Marketplace’.
